2012 – July – Briefly

Just by way of a tidy-up for  The Olympics and the RuntheRace event, we will have a quick work-party 10.00 to 11.00 this Saturday, 28th focused on just the old ford and section between The Greyhound and the Vic Wotton bridge in Chalfont St Peter.  If you would like to join us – welcome: no need to let me know in advance.  I will only arrange a small number of tools so you may wish to bring seccateurs, shovel, broom, rake.

Due to holidays, lack of water etc., we are not planning to go ahead with the full work-party originally scheduled for the 19th August.

However 1.  Volunteers are required for an hour or so on the morning of (probably) Thursday 7th August to assist with relocating reeds at Little Missenden where work has been done to clear and improve the watercourse.  If interested and available, please let me know and, when arrangements are confirmed, I will pass your contact details on to the organiser.

However 2.  As you have possibly seen there has been a sustained flow through the dump, past Bottom House Farm Lane and into the top of the leat for several weeks …… but still nothing coming out at the bottom at Mill Lane.  There is quite a lot that could be done downstream from Bottom House Farm Lane and through the leat to sustain this welcome development.  I am hoping that, assuming this flow continues, some of the mid week team might feel moved to have a go after the Olympics.  (Hint!)

September 8th is Chalfont St Giles Show.  We look forward to seeing you there and, if anyone can spend half an hour or so talking to visitors on the stand that would be very welcome.  (Thanks to those who have already committed to this and, indeed to those who held the fort at the St Peter Fair.)

That’s all for now.  More newsy items in a while when we have the August 1st river and weather statistics to hand.
