This topsy-turvy year continues with the river advancing at a time of year when we might expect it to be in retreat. Aside from the flash-flows during showers, flow now extends fairly regularly to the top of the leat by Misbourne Farm. However, trying to guess what may happen in the rest of the year and looking at the choked channel downstream of Mill Lane to Chalfont St Giles, it seems more sensible to let things take their course until there is some natural die back and then look to redefine the water-course later in the season. Accordingly, we decided to cancel the work day previously scheduled for 15 July. Depending on developments over the next few weeks, perhaps we will review at a “Not a meeting” chat on 26th July and decide the plan for August – we’ll let you know.
If you are attending Chalfont St Peter’s Feast Day on Saturday, do visit the MRA display in the Village Appraisal Group’s tent. We will also have a stand at Chalfont St Giles’ Show on September 1st – more help on the day, even for just half an hour, would be welcome: drop me a mail.
We hear that the Chiltern Society’s application for a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant for some limited lining was unsuccessful. The search for alternative funding continues.
Meanwhile, monthly measurements of ground water levels and observations of invertebrate populations and distribution continue – see updated website.
